About Us
After military service, university, and the Norwegian merchant marine, Erik decided to become a goldsmith. After two and a half years learning the trade in New York, he worked as a goldsmith in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. In Europe he did extensive research in museum displays and archaeological journals while teaching himself the ancient art of chip carving metal.
Out of many earlier interests, he concentrated on mediaeval period specialties. His designs are not ‘inspired by’ mediaeval design, they are mediaeval design. He does original designs only when he knows the style well enough to make a piece as he feels that a smith of that ancient period would have made it.
Among
other things, Erik is versed in heraldry and made the heraldic baton
carried by the Speaker of the House at the opening of Canada's federal
parliament. Coat of arms and seal rings are made to order.
